Kandivali housing is not one thing — and the work changes with it

This is where a Kandivali job differs from a Thane one. The suburb has four very different kinds of housing within a few kilometres of each other, and each needs a different inspection focus.

• Charkop’s low-rise sectors. The MHADA layouts are ground-plus-two and ground-plus-three buildings with shared walls and decades-old timber fittings. Bed bugs move between adjoining flats through wall gaps and old conduit runs. Treating one flat here while the neighbouring flat stays untreated is the single most common reason a Charkop job comes back. Where we see that pattern we say so — even though it means recommending a smaller immediate job for us.
• Thakur Village, Thakur Complex and Lokhandwala Township towers. Newer construction, fewer cracks, but service ducts and false ceilings run between flats. In tall buildings the infestation is often vertical — two flats one above the other rather than side by side. The inspection has to look up and down, not just across.
• Older buildings around Shankar Lane and MG Road. Heavy wooden furniture that has not been moved in years, built-in wardrobes, long-settled clutter. These jobs need patient inspection rather than speed — the bugs are usually in the frame joints, not on the mattress surface.
• PG accommodation and shared rooms. The belt around Thakur Complex and Akurli Road has a heavy concentration of PGs. Occupants and belongings change every few months. These need several beds handled together on the same day, not one room at a time — otherwise an untreated bed reinfests the treated ones within a fortnight.

How do bed bugs get into a Kandivali flat?

• Second-hand furniture. A used bed, sofa or wardrobe is the single most common source we find. Bed bugs sit inside joints, screw holes and the underside of frames, where a quick look will not spot them.

Steam goes where the bugs and eggs actually sit — mattress piping, sofa folds, bed frame joints, headboards. The CIB-approved low-odour residual spray then goes into the cracks, skirting and conduits that steam physically cannot enter. Either method used alone leaves one half of the problem intact.

How to choose a bed bug exterminator in Kandivali

What does the visit involve?

1. Inspection. Mattress seams, bed frames, headboards, sofa joints, curtains, wardrobe corners and switchboards — to establish where the bugs are living, not just where they were seen.
2. Preparation guidance. Before the visit we tell you exactly what to wash, what to clear and how far to pull the furniture from the walls. In Charkop’s low-rise flats and older Shankar Lane buildings this matters more than anywhere else, because access is tighter.
3. Steam and spray. Steam first into seams and frame joints, then targeted residual spray into cracks and skirting. A standard flat takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
4. Follow-up at 15 days. Included in the price, not charged extra. Any eggs that survived the first round will have hatched by then, and this visit breaks the breeding cycle.

What should I do after the treatment?

Is the treatment safe if there are children or elderly people at home?

Thermal steam uses no chemicals at all. The residual spray is a CIB-approved formulation applied into cracks and crevices rather than on open surfaces. Keep children and pets out of the treated rooms for two to four hours until surfaces dry, and follow the written aftercare sheet the technician leaves with you.

Is one visit enough to clear bed bugs?

Usually not. Eggs sheltered deep in joints and wall cavities can survive the first round and hatch over the following one to two weeks, which is why the follow-up visit at 15 days is included in the price rather than charged separately.
